Amy Wiechec, Aquatic Center Director
New Aquatic Supervisor Brings Enthusiasm and Safety Emphasis
MSU graduate Amy Wiechec exudes confidence and a renewed focus on safety for all swimmers at the Charlotte Aquatic Center. Amy was named the new aquatic supervisor for the Charlotte Aquatic Center starting in January of this year.
“This job is where my passion lies and it allows me to do what I love while stepping up our programs and the way the pool is run,” said Amy. “My background is in teaching and recreation and this is where I want to be.”
“So far my greatest success is to hear people say they feel the pool is a safe place and our lifeguards are attentive and focused on safety. I work with 35 lifeguards and we have implemented strict rules for how they do their job,” Amy said. “From a life-long safety viewpoint, this pool teaches between 230 and 270 new young students to swim each year.”
“I am so pleased to see the great attitude and attention the guards show on the job,” said regular swimmer Leila Klaiss.
“I see the guards going the extra mile and helping to keep the pool area clean and safe,” said Steve Sowle of the Aquatic Citizen Advisory Committee. “I congratulate Amy for this renewed effort.”
Amy Wiechec holds a bachelors degree in Family and Community Services from MSU. She started working as a lifeguard and water safety instructor in 2004 while still in high school in Troy, Michigan. Since that time she has worked for Michigan Athletic Club and the City of Lansing as lifeguard, swim coach, and water safety instructor. Amy also holds specialties in Early Childhood Education, Bioethics – Humanity and Societies Specialization, and Health Promotion.
